So you may remember the Cape Town Alive crew headed to Madame Zingara a couple of months ago for the launch of their Love Magic tour. Needless to say we had a great time and have been supporting them ever since and it is fair to say that the last 16 weeks have been a great success! However what goes up must come down and as they say all good things must come to an end.

the poofie towers

As a child, my logic bestowed the Athlone cooling towers with the prefix “poofie”. Mostly pinning the blame of the nearby sewerage stench on something bigger than my parents. Everyone remembers that libelous game of; “did you make that smell”, something played in cars all over the world. I still play it, no matter how mature the company, I rarely let an opportunity for a fart joke slip by. Comedy gold in fact. From as far back as I can remember I have used those towers as a landmark to launch the “who made a fart” ambush. I’m sharing these precious memories because they are scheduled for demolition. Very soon the poofie towers will be no more.

Breaching Whale lands on boat in Cape Town

Posted by James Gilmour in iol

James Gilmour

A breaching whale has crash-landed on a sailboat in Table Bay, narrowly missing the vessel's occupants and leaving in its wake bits of blubber and thick skin.

This picture shows the southern right whale seconds before its massive body landed on the coach roof of the boat, flattening the steel mast and bringing down the rigging before sliding back into the water and disappearing into the distance.
