Alive Review- Sidewalk Cafe

Side Walk Cafe - Cape Town Restaurant

Sidewalk Cafe in Vredehoek, is not only one of the most popular local haunts, catering for the full range of eccentric CapeTonians that live in the City Bowl, but is a CTA hotspot, pull past Monday to Friday and you will be sure to find one of the team sipping away at a delicious Cappuccino.

What is truly amazing is how The Sidewalk Cafe has been transformed by the new owners, what was once a quite little corner shop has become a vibrant favourite for the local community. Drive past most evenings and you will see a buzz of people leaking through the front doors, and tables lining the streets creating a very bohemian atmosphere.

The decor is simple yet really tastefully done and with a mix match of unique pieces of furniture and art lining the walls, it almost feels as if you are in the owners lounge.

Now while I have yet to make it for dinner, which is a crying shame. I can vouch for the Breakfast and Lunches! From the really cheap breakfast, which is a simple egg, bacon, and tomato combination set upon an absolutely delicious slice of Sourdough Bread.

My personal favourite, while you read this I am probably guzzling one of these down. For the hungry try the Breakfast Stack... it is the real deal, oh and the Scrabmled Egg on Fresh Croissants is also delicious!

Lunch time for me at Sidewalk consists of the create your own sandwich option. You see you select 3 toppings, choose your favourite type of bread, go for the sourdough, and you are in the game.

The key to good food in my humble opinion is fresh ingredients and at Sidewalk Cafe you can always be a guaranteed a great meal, an excellent vibe and of course the type of friendly service that one would expect to find from the owners that have brought us two Cape Town favourites such as Bombay Bicycle Club and Sidewalk Cafe.

So the time you find yourself on the slopes of the Mountain, head towards Derry Street, grab a table on the Sidewalk, preferably out of the sun yet with a view of the mountain, and enjoy! I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

And if the CTA team happen to see you, you never know you might even get a free Cappuccino!!
