Death in Camps bay vol 2 - Graphic pictorial reportPosted by: Maggels in Cape Town News on Mar 11, 2009 Tagged in: Untagged

I present these pictures to shed light on one of the most atrocious acts of inhumanity and '4th world' administration that I have ever encountered. On the 24th of Feb 2009 this man dropped to his death on the beach front in Camps bay. Once pronounced dead, the corpse was left on the scene, in the baking summer sun, for 6 hours before authorities came and took the body away. Click here for full story details.
The pictures highlight exactly how bad the situation was. It is clear that it was a beautiful day in the lavish district of Camps Bay and that tourist and beach budding locals alike were scattered along the beachfront. These graphic images show how clearly the body lay in view of sidewalk strollers and unimpressed diners as the location of the corpse was directly in front of the promenade building where Blues, Paranga and other big name establishments ply there trade.
Looking at the pictures again it horrifies me to realize who the victim is, identifiable by his trademark Camo-castro cap. He was a local homeless guy who resided behind the building. we always used to pass by with brief ‘hellos' and he was always asking about the well being of my family. He really was a genuinely nice guy and I Hope that the poor and inhumane action adopted by the municipal services in no way was related to the socio-economic class that he fell into. Furthermore, who is offering counseling and compassion to those friends and family he has left behind? It is a sad tale if ever there was one!

Soak in these disturbing pictures folks. In no way do I intend you to take away some form of cognitive scarring by looking at them that some b-grade gore horror might inflict, but rather feel uncomfortable, feel restless... feel an urge to make a change...
We need to put a government in power that can prevent these administrative nightmares from happening, but it goes deeper. We need a political system that can help the ailing health of the poor who do not have funds to even save their lives. As I asked in the last piece, if this happens in the affluent Camps Bay area, what happens in the poorer sectors? I don't know if I want this question answered.
On top of this, we need a government that can enhance our reputation abroad. We are already seen as a 'dangerous paradise' and a dead body next to a picturesque white sand beach seems to epitomize such a label. If we scare tourists away, we scare business away, we lose jobs and we down grade the potential for a sound quality of life.

Esteemed readers, this tale is as true and disturbing as can be. The only way we can improve our nation is to not let this article get your moral compass ticking, and mere water under the bridge tomorrow. The solution is to get your voice heard through your electoral vote.
The solution is action!
A Special thanks to Ms Roxi Vollimer and the Skippee for these pictures from the frontline!
this video shows the police services finally arrive and transport the body off. not for the easily disturbed!

... the whole "it's not my problem" attitude sucks. the buck needs to stop somewhere. thank you lorenzo for putting the spotlight on these public service people who clearly don't have the tax paying public's interest as a priority. |
